Pacific Biosciences sequencing technology (PacBio Sequel II)
Pacific Biosciences’ real-time single-molecule sequencing (SMRT ®) provides sequences of several thousand bases per molecule. This makes it possible to study and resolve the structure of complex genes or entire genomes with a resolution that was not possible with existing technologies (with short sequences). The unique features of the PacBio system are ideal for a number of applications:
- de novo assembly of small and large genomes
- Sequencing of long RNA/cDNA (ISOseq)
- Detection of modified nucleotides (epigenetics)
As more scientists adopt the SMRT ® technology, we expect numerous other sequencing applications to become feasible for the first time.
