The Genomic Applications Partnership Program supports large-scale projects led through partnerships between academic researchers and Canadian companies. The goal is to translate advances in genomic research into tangible, marketable solutions.
Program Objectives
- Increase Canadian private-sector investment in the commercialization of innovation derived from public R&D funding in genomics and biotechnology.
- Stimulate technological innovation and implementation through co-operative R&D between research and receptors.
- Enable research investments that de-risk opportunities and secure follow-on funding from finance and industry.
- Foster and encourage participation in innovation and entrepreneurship by individuals from equity-deserving communities.
Eligible Partners
Each project must include:
- A receptor: A for-profit Canadian company with an economic interest in turning an idea or research outcome into a commercial application. A representative from the company (owner or employee) will act as the project lead and oversee research and commercialization efforts.
- A researcher: Affiliated with an eligible academic institution such as a university, research institute, hospital, or nonprofit organization with an explicit research mandate. This individual will serve as the administrative lead and provide scientific and technical expertise.
- Optional partners: Co-investigators, collaborators, or others who can contribute complementary expertise or resources.
Total budget: $900,000 to $6,000,000 per project
Maximum project duration: Two years (no extensions allowed)
