As part of the 2025 Rendez-vous Génome Québec, held on October 23 at the Montréal Science Centre, Génome Québec presented the Emerging Talent Awards, a distinction celebrating the quality, boldness, and drive of the next generation of scientists working in the field of omics in Québec.
This recognition is part of Génome Québec’s 25th anniversary celebrations and aims to spotlight emerging talents whose work is helping make genomics a true engine of innovation serving health, the environment, and society at large
Five awards celebrating scientific excellence
Five monetary awards of $25,000 each were granted to early-career researchers to support research programs distinguished by their excellence, originality, and impact.
The recipients of the 2025 awards are:
- Alexandre Pellan Cheng
- Catherine Girard
- Edel Pérez-López
- Jean-Benoît Lalanne
- Sandra Isabel
Their achievements and research programs stand out for their scientific rigor, creativity, and relevance to Québec’s research ecosystem.
A ceremony honoured by leading scientists
The awards were presented in the presence of renowned researchers recognized for their outstanding contributions to biology and genomics: Jacques Simard, Dr. Nada Jabado, François Belzile, and Dr. Pavel Hamet. Their participation added a touch of prestige to the evening, while underscoring the importance of mentorship and support for the next generation of scientists.
Supporting the future of genomics research in Québec
The competition was open to individuals appointed to their first independent research position within the past five years at a Québec university, research centre, or hospital.
Through this initiative, Génome Québec reaffirms its commitment to fostering innovation, collaboration, and the next generation of scientific leaders: values that have been at the heart of its mission for 25 years.
