In total the teams secured funding of $5 million from a total of $21\u00a0million available across Canada under the Genome Canada <em>Genomic Applications Partnership Program<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.genomequebec.com\/214-en\/project\/novel-aminoglycoside-readthrough-therapy-for-nonsense-mutations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Developing a new treatment for a rare childhood disease<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Paul Goodyer and his team at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre will be collaborating with the U.S.-based Eloxx Pharmaceuticals in efforts to develop a new antibiotic for the treatment a rare genetic disorder affecting infants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.genomequebec.com\/47-environment-capsule-a-dna-chip-to-monitor-and-protect-caribou-populations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Genomics protecting caribou populations<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Claude Robert, professor and researcher at the Animal Science Department of Universit\u00e9 Laval, and his team are working in partnership with the minist\u00e8re des For\u00eats, de la Faune et des Parcs du Qu\u00e9bec (MFFP) on developing a DNA chip that will help wildlife conservation officers manage and protect declining caribou populations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.genomequebec.com\/DATA\/COMMUNIQUE\/335_en~v~Harnessing_Genomics_to_Improve_Human_Health_and_the_Environment.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read the press release.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.genomecanada.ca\/sites\/default\/files\/bk-gapp_round9-en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">To learn more about all Canadian results, click here.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>G\u00e9nome Qu\u00e9bec congratulates two Qu\u00e9bec research teams who have been awarded major funding for projects in the sectors of human health and the environment.
