This welcome news demonstrates the resolve of the federal and provincial governments to making research and innovation one of their core strategic priorities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<br \/>Daniel Coderre, President and CEO of G\u00e9nome Qu\u00e9bec, was pleased with our governments&#8217; renewed support of the excellent genomics work being carried out in Qu\u00e9bec universities. The funding will primarily be used to finance genomics projects that aim to find sustainable, cost-effective solutions for the environment and natural resources.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The teams of<strong> S\u00e9bastien Sauv\u00e9<\/strong> (Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al) and <strong>Niladri Basu<\/strong> (McGill University) were particularly successful under the Genome Canada competition, Natural Resources and the Environment: Sector Challenges \u2013 Genomic Solutions. Among co-funded teams, Qu\u00e9bec has also emerged as a strong leader in the forestry sector, with the pan-Canadian projects spearheaded by Jean Bousquet, Richard Hamelin and Ilga\u00a0Porth, all from Universit\u00e9 Laval.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The competition aims to promote the use of genomic approaches to address challenges facing the natural resources and environmental sectors.
