As a fitting tribute, John Mackay and Jean Bousquet, two Qu\u00e9bec-based scientists from Laval University, have made a major breakthrough in the rapidly evolving field of forestry research. Working in partnership with Canadian and Scandinavian researchers, they have completed a large-scale international study on the DNA of coniferous trees. The team has, in fact, sequenced the full genome of the white spruce and Norwegian spruce.
