Génome Québec would like to congratulate Professor Sylvain Moineau, from Université Laval, who received the prestigious Order of Québec as an Officer for his outstanding career and his contribution to genomics.
Active in fundamental and applied research, Sylvain Moineau was, early in life, interested in bacteriophages, viruses that infect and destroy bacteria and play both a beneficial and harmful role. By combining the contribution of various fields, including genomics and proteomics, he has worked to develop tools that follow two opposite axes: eliminate bacteriophages (as in dairy fermentations) and use the bacteriophages as antibacterials (in the public health sector and many others). Mr. Moineau also played a preponderant role in the understanding of bacterial viruses and CRISPR-Cas system.
