Génome Québec applauds the decision of the Québec government to place research and innovation at the forefront of its economic plan. The Minister of Finance, Carlos J. Leitão, announced today additional funding of $834 million in support of the forward-looking sector, bringing to $2.5 billion the government’s overall investment over the next five years.
Of that amount, $40 million is earmarked for Génome Québec and its genomics research activities, more specifically in personalized medicine. Also worthy of note were several additional measures dedicated to other innovation sectors, such as sustainable development, forestry and agrifood. These rank among Génome Québec’s priority sectors, where genomics research is expected to generate innovative solutions in coming years.
