Last December 29, Ms. Sophie D’Amours and Professor Sylvain Moineau were named Officers of the Order of Canada by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada.
Ms. D’Amours received this honour for her academic and scientific leadership at the helm of numerous transdisciplinary research projects, including several related to the forestry industry. Mrs. D’Amours, who sat on Génome Québec’s Board of Directors until recently, became the first woman to be named Rector of Université Laval in April.
Pr. Sylvain Moineau received this honour for his contributions as an eminent microbiologist, particularly in the study of bacteriophages and the systems linked to a genome editing technology. Mr. Moineau is Full Professor at the Département de biochimie, de microbiologie et de bio-informatique of Université Laval. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Génome Québec.
The Order of Canada was created to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
