AI in Genomics program is a 12-week training that will allow participants to get hands-on experience in working with machine learning.

Sponsored by the city of Montréal, with support from Mila – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute and IVADO (Institut de valorisation des données), the AI in Genomics program will help to prepare participants with expertise in genomics to develop a foundational knowledge of advanced machine learning methodologies so that they can develop a better understanding of where and how these techniques could be used with genomics data.

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze genomics papers that use machine learning.
  • Understand Machine Learning data structures and tools.
  • Identify the best methodologies to address genomic questions.
  • Propose a potential application of machine learning within a genomic project.
  • Understand the ethics issues relating to Artificial Intelligence.

As the program is designed for the participants to get hands-on experience, we are asking for genomics researchers’ collaboration in obtaining datasets that could be used for the training. As a thank you for your support, at the end of the program, we will make all the developed models available to you and facilitate their subsequent validation.

Requested Datasets

The datasets we would like to have access to must meet the following criteria:

  • Be large enough so that non-linear (deep learning, etc.) machine learning models can be used (minimum of 100,000 data points)
  • Datasets where deep learning has been successfully used (since they will be used for educational purposes)
  • Preferably datasets which could have commercial applications
  • Datasets must be available for the duration of the program (12 weeks)
